Dallas County Now Has Its Very Own Bulletproof, "Mine-Protected" Military SUV By Eric Nicholson

Dallas County sheriff's deputies traveled to Fort Hood earlier this month and picked up their very own International MaxxPro MRAP. This particular truck has never seen any actual combat, having only been deployed stateside for training exercises, so it doesn't have any cool battle scars, but with the dealer's $600,000 price tag knocked down to nothing, and with just 10,000 miles on it, the deal was too good to pass up.

OK. Pretty cool. But let's back up for a moment. There's a very glaring, very fundamental question we haven't yet addressed: Why in holy hell does Dallas County need an armored military vehicle built to withstand a minor apocalypse?

The underlying reason seems to be that military trucks are fucking cool, but no one's actually saying that. The sheriff's office is touting it as a tool that will help them better serve warrants.

"Having a tactical vehicle will not only provide warrants execution with the equipment to assist in performing their jobs but will provide an overall safety arch," Chief Deputy Marlin Suell wrote to commissioners.

Both Homeland Security and militarization of local police is an obvious violation of Posse Comitatus so this is simply an end run. Wishing the feds to supervise it is like asking the fox to guard the hen house.

Feds Raid Family Grocery Store's Checking Account Over Innocent Bank Deposits

Government bullies are taking the little guy's milk money.

Earlier this year, without warning, the federal government seized the store's entire bank account—more than $35,000—and refuses to give it back. The government falsely accused Terry and Sandy of breaking anti-money-laundering laws by making frequent bank deposits of their store's cash receipts. But they did nothing illegal and have been charged with no crime. In July, the government filed a lawsuit to keep the money, not against Terry and Sandy but against the cash itself, which is why the case has the bizarre title of United States v. $35,651.11. Federal civil forfeiture law features an appalling lack of due process: there is no way to quickly get a ruling from a neutral decisionmaker about the validity of the government's seizure, and therefore Terry and Sandy must do battle in federal court against the U.S. Department of Justice to prove themselves innocent and get their money back. Shockingly, the money taken by the government will be used to fund the budgets of the very federal agencies that seized the money in the first place.

The IRS is unable to account for $67 million spent from a slush fund established for Obamacare implementation, according to a TIGTA report released today. WASHINGTON, D.C. – The IRS is unable to account for $67 million spent from a slush fund established for Obamacare implementation, according to a Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) report released today. The “Health Insurance Reform Implementation Fund” (HIRIF) was tucked into Obamacare in order to give the IRS money to enforce the tax provisions of the healthcare law. The fund, totaling some $1 billion of taxpayer money, was used to roll out enforcement mechanisms for the approximately 50 tax provisions of Obamacare. According to the report: “Specifically, the IRS did not account for or attempt to quantify approximately $67 million [from the slush fund] of indirect ACA costs incurred for Fiscal Years 2010 through 2012.” The report also found several other abuses of taxpayer funds, including: Travel abuse: The report states, “Specifically, we identified 38 IRS employees in two judgmentally selected business units whose travel was charged to the HIRIF in FY 2012, but no portion of their salary and related benefits was charged to the HIRIF.” In short, the IRS was not making sure that employee travel reimbursements had anything to do with the purpose of the fund. This is not the first time that IRS employee travel has created a scandal for the agency. 1,272 IRS Obamacare enforcement agents: The report estimates that total slush fund spending cost taxpayers the equivalent of 1,272 new full time IRS agents. The IRS requested an additional 859 IRS Obamacare enforcement agents for Fiscal Year 2013: According to the report, “The IRS informed us that it requested $360 million and 859 FTEs for FY 2013 to continue implementation of the ACA. However, the IRS did not receive this requested amount for FY 2013.” To add insult to injury, the IRS has told the Inspector General that it will comply with the recommendations made in the report; unfortunately, the slush fund has been fully spent, making that promise meaningless. During his Tuesday remarks at the Clinton Global Initiative, President Obama admitted that his health care law raises taxes: “So what we did — it’s paid for by a combination of things. We did raise taxes on some things.” “Some things” is an understatement. Below is just a partial list of Obamacare’s new or higher taxes on Americans: Starting in tax year 2013: Obamacare Medical Device Tax: Medical device manufacturers employ 409,000 people in 12,000 plants across the country. Obamacare imposes a new 2.3 percent excise tax on gross sales – even if the company does not earn a profit in a given year. In addition to killing small business jobs and impacting research and development budgets, this will make everything from pacemakers to artificial hips more expensive. Obamacare High Medical Bills Tax: Before Obamacare, Americans facing high medical expenses were allowed a deduction to the extent that those expenses exceeded 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income (AGI). Obamacare now imposes a threshold of 10 percent of AGI. Therefore, Obamacare not only makes it more difficult to claim this deduction, it widens the net of taxable income. According to the IRS, 10 million families took advantage of this tax deduction in 2009, the latest year of available data. Almost all are middle class. The average taxpayer claiming this deduction earned just over $53,000 annually. Obamacare Flexible Spending Account Tax: The 30 - 35 million Americans who use a pre-tax Flexible Spending Account (FSA) at work to pay for their family’s basic medical needs face a new Obamacare cap of $2,500. This will squeeze $13 billion of tax money from Americans over the next ten years. (Before Obamacare, the accounts were unlimited under federal law, though employers were allowed to set a cap.) Now, a parent looking to sock away extra money to pay for braces will find themselves quickly hitting this new cap, meaning they would have to pony up some or all of the cost with after-tax dollars. Needless to say, this tax will especially impact middle class families. There is one group of FSA owners for whom this new cap will be particularly cruel and onerous: parents of special needs children. Nationwide there are several million families with special needs children and many of them use FSAs to pay for special needs education. Tuition rates at one leading school that teaches special needs children in Washington, D.C. (National Child Research Center) can easily exceed $14,000 per year. Under tax rules, FSA dollars can be used to pay for this type of special needs education. This Obamacare tax provision will limit the options available to these families. Obamacare Super Saver Surtax: A new, 3.8 percent surtax on investment income earned in households making at least $250,000 ($200,000 single). This tax hike results in the following top tax rates on investment income: Starting in tax year 2014: Obamacare Individual Mandate Non-Compliance Tax: Starting in 2014, anyone not buying “qualifying” health insurance – as defined by President Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services -- must pay an income surtax to the IRS. Egypt court bans Muslim Brotherhood, orders its assets confiscated

Egypt has banned the Muslim Brotherhood from carrying out activities inside the country as its interim government looks to crack down on unrest following former President Mohammed Morsi’s ouster. “The court bans the activities of the Muslim Brotherhood organization and its non-governmental organization and all the activities that it participates in and any organization derived from it,” judge Mohammed al-Sayed said in a statement on Monday, according to Reuters. The court also ordered the Muslim Brotherhood's assets confiscated. The Brotherhood was outlawed for most of its 85 years in existence. But after the 2011 ouster of autocrat Hosni Mubarak, it was allowed to work openly, formed a political party and rose to power in a string of post-Mubarak elections. In March, it registered as a recognized non-governmental organization.

Students at Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy in Hartford, Conn., were on a field trip last November to Nature’s Classroom (a residential environment education program), when they were asked to re-enact slavery as part of an ‘educational exercise.’ A local newspaper called The Courant, confirms that on the third night of a four-day trip, students participated in an exercise that included “threatening language and use of a racial epithet; packing together students in a dark room, as if they were on a slave ship; and hiding in the woods from ‘white masters’” – and the instructors were white. “‘Bring those (n-word) to the house over there. (N-word) if you can read, there’s a problem. Dumb, dark-skinned (n-word). How dare you look at me?’” The overall theme of the re-enactment was the “Underground Railroad.” Sandra Baker said her 12-year daughter, who is African-American, was “terrorized” during the exercise and filed a complaint in March with the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO). Baker, stunned by the exercise, says her daughter was subjected to “social and emotion abuse” after participating in the program and has since pulled her out of the school system. Parents were reportedly completely unaware of this exercise.

A Tennessee high school field trip to an Islamic mosque where students were given copies of the Quran not only left parents questioning the decision, but resulted in the school revising its field trip policy.

As reported by Fox News Radio’s Todd Starnes, the students involved were in an honors world studies class at Hendersonville High School and the field trips to the mosque as well as a Hindu temple were part of a three-week course on world religions. But some parents objected to the trips, asking why the school would tour a mosque but not a Christian church or a Jewish synagogue. “If you can’t go to all five, why are you going to any?” parent Mike Conner inquired. “We sent the principal an email and voiced our concerns. She sent back a reply and told us they could not afford to go to all five.” The students were given punch and cookies at the mosque and listened to readings from the Quran, Conner said. They were also offered copies of the Islamic holy book – which some took and others declined, Starnes reported. Students who chose not to participate in the field trip were instructed to write a paper comparing and contrasting the Christian, Hindu and Islamic faiths, Conner told Fox News. An assignment that included a worksheet that alleged Muslims treated their conquered people better than the United States treated minorities. “If we were to compare the attitude of the Muslim rulers towards the minorities living under their rule during the nineteenth century – with the attitude of the Europeans and the Americans towards their minorities, I dare to say that the record of the Muslims would be better,” the author wrote. The worksheet stated that the “Prophet of Islam was prepared to live in peace with the followers of other monotheistic religions,” and also said “Muslims in the Middle East and Asian conquered lands of other peoples but they did not impose their religion over them.” The student in question responded to the assignment by noting “there is not enough true facts to properly complete a comparison and contrasting paper.” She received a zero for the assignment.

Chicago's police superintendent has said that overall violence is down so far this year compared to 2012, when the number of homicides topped 500 for the first time since 2008.

Following a surge in homicides and shootings last year, the police department stepped up its crime-fighting efforts by, among other things, paying overtime to add patrols to some neighborhoods, including the Back of the Yards.

Through the first six months of the year, the department spent more than $57 million on overtime pay for officers, more than half of it from a program that saturates dangerous neighborhoods with hundreds of officers every night.

Police believe the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the Black P. Stones and Gangster Disciples. It was not known if any of the victims were the intended targets, authorities said. “There were members of gangs on the scene and there were gang members among the victims,” McCarthy said. Authorities do not have anyone in custody and are currently reviewing police cameras mounted nearby.

There could be as many as three offenders, officials said. The park is in a heavily gang-infested area, but it is not in a so-called impact zone flooded by officers to deter crime, McCarthy said. The nearest zones are three blocks to the north and three blocks to the south, leaving the Cornell Square as a no man’s land protected only by occasional patrols and an 11 p.m. curfew.

Members of the Containment and Emergency Response Team (Cert) are typically debriefed "right away, at the very least the following day" after an incident, a Capitol Police source said.
"[They] haven't even been given the courtesy of a debrief They have not even been given an answer as to why the decision was made that they should not respond," the source added. Another Capitol Police source close to the incident told the BBC: "No-one's talked to these officers since this happened."
On Thursday, members of the tactical unit, which has several dozen members, were told that it had a new leader, a Capitol Police source said. It is not clear why the command shake-up occurred. Four Cert team members wearing full tactical gear and armed with HK-416 assault weapons arrived on scene at Navy Yard at 08:36 (12:36 GMT) on Monday, after reports surfaced of an active gunman at the complex at 08:20. According to sources, an officer with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Washington DC's main municipal force, told the Capitol Cert officers they were the only police on site equipped with long guns, and requested their help stopping the gunman.
When the Capitol Police team radioed their superiors, they were told by a watch commander to leave the scene, the BBC was told. On Thursday, FBI Director James B Comey Jr told ABC News it took roughly half an hour for armed police to arrive and engage Alexis. All 12 victims were killed within that time. Capitol Police sources suggest "lives may have been saved" if the Cert team had been allowed to intervene.
One officer close to the situation called the lack of communication from department leadership "unforgivable". Details of the gunman and the shooting continue to emerge. Alexis, a former Navy reservist, reportedly had a history of mental health problems and gun-related brushes with the law. He had sought treatment for insomnia at two Veterans Affairs hospitals in the last month, according to media reports.

Army veteran charged with joining terrorists in Syria pleads guilty to lesser charge
Ex-U.S. soldier Eric Harroun, who allegedly fought alongside an Al Qaeda affiliate against the forces of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge Thursday and was sentenced to time served, The Military Times reported. Harroun, a Phoenix native, was charged in June with conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and conspiracy to use destructive devices overseas, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement. Those charges, one of which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment if convicted, were reduced to a charge of conspiring to violate arms-control laws, the report said. U.S. District Judge Claude Hilton accepted the plea on the lesser charge. The case posed a political dilemma for the Justice Department. Harroun was fighting for the Syrian rebels, who are supported by the Obama State Department.

Armed EPA raid in Alaska sheds light on 70 fed agencies with armed divisions

The recent uproar over armed EPA agents descending on a tiny Alaska mining town is shedding light on the fact that 40 federal agencies – including nearly a dozen typically not associated with law enforcement -- have armed divisions. The agencies employ about 120,000 full-time officers authorized to carry guns and make arrests, according to a June 2012 Justice Department report. Though most Americans know agents within the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Federal Bureau of Prisons carry guns, agencies such as the Library of Congress and Federal Reserve Board employing armed officers might come as a surprise. The incident that sparked the renewed interest and concern occurred in late August when a team of armed federal and state officials descended on the tiny Alaska gold mining town of Chicken, Alaska. The Environmental Protection Agency, whose armed agents in full body armor participated, acknowledged taking part in the Alaska Environmental Crimes Task Force investigation, which it said was conducted to look for possible violations of the Clean Water Act. However, EPA officials denied the operation was a “raid” and didn't address speculation about whether it was connected to possible human and drug trafficking. “Imagine coming up to your diggings, only to see agents swarming over it like ants, wearing full body armor, with jackets that say "POLICE" emblazoned on them, and all packing side arms,” gold miner C.R. Hammond told the Alaska Dispatch. The other federal agencies participating in the operation were the FBI, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the Coast Guard, the National Oceanic and the Atmospheric Administration and the U.S. Park Service. The FBI, Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management and Park Service are among 24 federal agencies employing more than 250 full-time armed officers with arrest authority, according the federal report, which is based on the 2008 Census of Federal Law Enforcement Officers. The other 16 agencies have less than 250 officers and include NOAA as well as the Library of Congress, the Federal Reserve Board and the National Institutes of Health. The number of federal department with armed personnel climbs to 73 when adding in the 33 offices of inspector general, the government watchdogs for agencies as large as the Postal Service to the Government Printing Office, whose IG has only five full-time officers. The attack was the largest loss of US combat aircraft since Vietnam and resulted in the loss of... two stellar Marines, one being the AV-8B Harrier Squadron Commander Lt. Col. Raible. I want you all to remember this incident because our American Marines were not being guarded by Marines, but Tongans. The fifteen Taliban had conducted reconnaissance and surveillance and exploited the weakness and were able to breach the base perimeter. This failure has never been a focus of the Obama administration to rectify and explain to the families of the Marines who were killed and wounded. I suppose this was not part of the campaign narrative in 2012. Extortion 17, Benghazi, and Camp Bastion. America better wake up and recognize the error you made. Semper Fidelis.

Human beings don’t flick their tongues out; snakes do. When you speak, do you flick your tongue out? Not once, not twice, but throughout your speech? I’ve delivered countless lectures, talks, and speeches in my profession as a university professor, lecturer, and public speaker. I can truthfully say I have NEVER EVER flicked or stuck my tongue out. Nor have I ever seen any of my teachers, professors, fellow professors, conference presenters, politicians and world leaders I’ve met flick their tongue. Ever. Yesterday, I asked why Secretary of State John Kerry, who will be 70 years old in 3 months, mutilated his face with plastic surgery.

Today, I draw your attention to something even more disturbing about Kerry — his flicking serpentine tongue.
